I watched this video by noted Self-Help expert,
Robin Sharma. These are the suggestions he made [with my comments included]
1) Get super fit [running, gym etc]. Person with very good physical shape requires less sleep. Thats because of increased metabolism, high stamina, more energy and lot of passion. I want to add - do daily sadhana [such as yoga, meditation, breathing techniques]. These are super effective.
2)
Get massage on weekend. Wait, did I hear it right? Massage? His argument is "increased blood circulation ... etc". For me, it sounds like, yoga, meditation and regular
Art of Living Silence Courses:)
3)
Eat less food. Don't eat after 8pm. Eat balanced food [protein, carbs etc]. Robin is basically making the same recommendations that are made in
Ayurveda.
4) After getting up in the morning, write a journal. Hmmm. His idea is that if we jot down everything on our mind, it means less worry. For me, the only worry in the morning is sleep. More sleep!
Anyway, he says, worry is an energy leak - drains us off of energy. Its same as what
Sri Sri says. Its what we practice in AOL. Tendency of our mind is to jump between past and future. Either worry or regret about something that happened in the past or worry and be anxious about something in future. If mind can stay in the present moment, we'll be saving/conserving lot of energy.
5) Find ways to make your work exciting. Somehow, figure out a way to become passionate at what you do, to love your job. I am not sure how that is going to help in getting up early. For instance, if we see 'hacker culture', most of them work through the night or stay up pretty late. These folks are really passionate about what they do.
I feel, his point is if there is passion, there is a high motivation to get up early. The same can also be said about staying up late :)
From personal experience, I concur with first point.
