I have a MacBook Pro [MBP] that had Tiger OS installed on it. I wanted Snow Lepoard [SL] but didn't want to pay $150+ for it. So, as a first step
I found out online that SL can be upgraded from Tiger. Cool!
If you have Tiger, you have to buy SL using the
$169 Box Set. If you have Leopard installed then you can buy an upgrade copy for
only $29. [Note: You can save some money if you buy them from Amazon. I don't know how long these discounts are going to last on Amazon, particularly, after the release of iPad. Apple is chewing in to Amazon's eBook business. And Amazon is
not happy about it.]
However, for some reason, Apple is
allowing to upgrade to SL from Tiger using the $29 version. Now, this is strange. Why would Apple do that? And until recently, this is not well known.
Anyway, I was lucky.
I purchased a copy from
Amazon for $24.99 [man, it was short by 1 cent to qualify for Super Saver Shipping a.k.a Free Shipping. What a marketing gimmick!]. Upgraded my MBP to SL - The process is pretty straight forward, insert the installation DVD and follow the instructions. Done.
I now have SL running on, probably, the first generation Intel Macs that came with Tiger.
Happy development on iPhone SDK :)
